AI & Machine-Learning Fraud Detection

AI fraud detection, engineered for your money flows

Fraud moves faster, in higher volume, and now with AI of its own. Fixed rules alone can't keep up. We build and tune the machine-learning models that find fraud in real time — behavioural analytics, network analysis and risk scoring engineered for your rails, integrated with your stack, and explainable enough to defend. We build the models. You keep them. No black box, no lock-in.

What it is

Not magic. Engineering.

AI fraud detection is the use of machine-learning models to score transactions, accounts and events for the likelihood of fraud — instead of waiting for a human, or a single rule, to catch it. Done well, it is a system you build, tune and run. Done badly, it is a black box that flags everything and explains nothing.

Every serious fraud operation now has three problems that rules alone cannot solve: volume that no review team can keep up with, patterns that shift the moment you block them, and attackers using generative AI to produce convincing deepfakes, synthetic identities and automated social engineering at scale. The answer is not to buy an "AI" badge. It is to engineer a detection stack that reasons about risk the way an experienced investigator would — in milliseconds, across every transaction.

We are a build-led financial-security firm. We design the models, write the scoring pipeline, integrate it with the systems you already run, and tune it against your live traffic until it catches real fraud without drowning your team in false positives. The models and the code are yours. Because we are vendor-independent, we have no product to push — only a system that has to work in production.

How the models work

Five layers that catch what rules miss

A real detection stack is not one model. It is layers that each cover the others' blind spots — and we engineer them to work together, in real time.

Supervised models

Trained on your labelled fraud to recognise the patterns you've already seen — card-not-present abuse, first-party fraud, mule behaviour — and score each new event against them with far more nuance than a threshold.

Unsupervised anomaly detection

Catches the fraud you've never seen. By modelling what normal looks like for each customer and segment, the system surfaces genuinely new typologies before you have a single labelled example of them.

Network & graph analysis

In isolation a mule account looks ordinary. On the graph of accounts, devices and money flows, the structure of a syndicate becomes visible — so you break the network, not just the one transaction.

Behavioural & device signals

How a genuine customer types, taps, navigates and pays is hard to fake. Behavioural biometrics, device fingerprinting and session signals flag the account takeover and remote-access fraud that look perfect on paper.

Model operations & drift control

Models decay as fraud adapts. We feed investigation outcomes back as labels, monitor precision and recall in production, watch for drift, and retrain — so the system gets sharper over time instead of quietly going blind.

Real-time scoring

On real-time rails, a decision after settlement is a decision too late. We build scoring that runs in-flight — proceed, warn, add friction, step up, hold or block — inside the window before the money is irrevocable.

The new threat

When the fraud is AI too

Deepfake voice and video, synthetic identities and automated social engineering are now cheap and convincing. You will not reliably catch the fake by inspecting the fake.

The losses bear this out: the ACCC reported A$2.18 billion lost to scams in Australia in 2025, and generative AI has made the most damaging of those — investment and impersonation scams — faster to produce and harder to spot. A deepfake of a trusted executive or a well-known investor can be generated in minutes.

The defensible answer is to move the point of detection away from the artefact and onto the behaviour it produces. A convincing deepfake still has to result in money moving — a new device, a changed detail, a new payee, an out-of-pattern payment — and that sequence, scored as one joined-up event across behavioural and network signals, is detectable even when the fake itself is flawless. That is the layer we build, and it is why AI-era fraud is fought with engineered detection, not with a single off-the-shelf "deepfake detector".

How we build it

From data to a model running in production

No six-month discovery. We get a working, measurable model into your flow and improve it against live traffic.

01

Map the money & the data

We map how money moves through your business and what signals you already capture, then find the fraud your current controls are structurally blind to.

02

Engineer the features & models

We build the feature pipeline and the hybrid rules-plus-ML models — supervised, unsupervised and graph — fit to your typologies and your rails.

03

Integrate & score in real time

We wire the scoring into your payment, fraud and case-management flow so decisions happen in-flight, with reason codes your team and your regulator can read.

04

Tune, monitor & retrain

We tune against live traffic, drive false positives down, monitor for drift, and feed outcomes back as labels — so the system keeps getting sharper.

Why Financial Crime Advisory

Models you own, not a black box

Most "AI fraud" offerings are a vendor's locked model you feed and hope. We build yours — explainable, vendor-independent, and tuned to your business.

We build, not just advise

Senior detection engineers write the models and the pipeline and run them in production. The deliverable is a working system measured on interdiction and false-positive burden — not a slide deck.

Explainable by design

Reason codes, feature attribution and an auditable rules layer, documented for model-risk and regulatory review. You can always answer why a transaction was flagged.

Vendor-independent

No product to sell. We build custom, or tune the model logic inside a platform you already own, and only recommend new tooling when the gap genuinely can't be closed.

Australia-wide & worldwide

Headquartered in Sydney, we work with money businesses across Australia and internationally — remote-first, senior-only, NDA as standard.

AI fraud detection sits inside our wider work on fraud prevention, transaction monitoring and tracing, and we deliver it as custom financial-security software engineered by senior specialists. If you'd rather talk to a person first, our financial crime consultants will tell you straight where AI will move the needle for you — and where it won't.

Common questions

AI fraud detection, answered straight

What is AI fraud detection?

AI fraud detection uses machine-learning models to score transactions, accounts and events for the likelihood of fraud, instead of relying only on fixed rules. Good systems combine fast deterministic rules with supervised models trained on labelled fraud, unsupervised anomaly detection for threats never seen before, and network analysis to expose mule and syndicate structure. We build that stack for your money flows and tune it against your live traffic.

Does AI replace rules in fraud prevention?

No — the strongest systems are hybrids. Rules are fast, explainable and perfect for known patterns and hard policy limits; machine-learning models catch the subtle, shifting and novel fraud that rules miss, and keep false positives down by scoring risk rather than tripping on a single signal. We engineer the two together so each covers the other's blind spot.

How does AI reduce false positives?

By scoring risk in context instead of firing on one threshold. Models weigh the customer's own baseline, the destination of the payment, device and behavioural signals and the network around the account, so genuine activity is less likely to be flagged. We also feed investigation outcomes back as labels and monitor for model drift, so precision improves over time rather than decaying.

Can AI stop AI-powered fraud like deepfakes?

Attackers now use generative AI for deepfake voice and video, synthetic identities and automated social engineering. The defence is not to detect the fake in isolation but to detect the behaviour it produces — the new device, the changed details, the new payee, the out-of-pattern payment — scored as one joined-up event. We build that behavioural and network layer so a convincing fake still has to move money through a system watching for the pattern.

Is your AI fraud detection explainable?

Yes. For regulated money businesses a score is not enough — you need to know why a transaction was flagged, defend the decision to a regulator and tune it with confidence. We build reason codes and feature attribution into the models, keep a rules layer for hard, auditable policy, and document model logic, validation and monitoring so the system stands up to model-risk and regulatory review.

Do you build custom AI models or sell a product?

We build custom. We are vendor-independent and have no box to sell — we engineer the models and the scoring pipeline for your rails and integrate them with the fraud, monitoring and case-management systems you already run, or tune the model logic inside a platform you already own. You keep the models and the code; there is no lock-in.
